Election time is here
Once again, it comes time for the great exercise in our 250-year-old political experiment we call “elections…” I could finish writing the entire entry like this, but I think you know that story. Yuck. I agree, but come on! Who wants me to say that?
I will say that I got my great Franklin County Republican Party slick in the mail today. I remember my father used to get his from the Democrats. It would say “Take this to the polls!” and Dad would stick it on the fridge with a magnet all month. “I will take this to the polls, actually… so I know who to vote against.” Dad, I’m right with you on that sentiment! The sample GOP ballot will easily clue me in to those candidates whose races are less known to me. I would hate to think I let an unknown, bad Republican slip in (or worse, vote unknowingly for an unopposed Republican of any kind!).
The ballot lists our beloved Robert “Bob” Taft as the best choice for governor. Yes, he may the be the least-achieving son in his famous political family, but that’s not why he’s not getting my vote. I can’t vote for him because of all of the corruption in: the governor’s mansion pay-for-sleepover Access Ohio fundraising flap, Transportation Department inspections, kickbacks in the school-building program leading to that guy’s resignation, prison construction scandals, the Ohio Turnpike Commission “revenue diversions,” and of course that child-support thing, where the state confiscated millions from payments to children because it didn’t have its computers in compliance with Federal law, and then tried to cover it up. However, I also don’t want to vote for the airbag Tim Hagan: call me Dorothy, but I just don’t think you should say “S.O.B.” on statewide television. So this year, I really wish for another choice. Maybe the Green Party will come in at the last minute and save this election.
Finally, I would like to point out that the Republican Party wants you to “Vote NO against DRUGS.” While I feel this simplifies the issue a bit, well, OK, they have a point. (Right, Sean?)
Vote early, and vote often.
